Got Questions? Ask Tony

Over the years I've received many hundreds of questions about inline skates and skating. Sometimes I add the question and answer to the Buying Guide or General FAQs. Most of the time I try to answer the emails when I have time.

Since I started the FAQ originally because the skating newsgroups got lots of similar questions, it only made sense to extend it to my mailbox. The "Ask Tony" section is meant to provide an archive of some of the emails, so that they can be searched and read by others with the same questions.

Anyway, if you have a question about inline skates or skating, and do not mind me quoting your email (I'll leave off names/address and other identifying info by default) send your questions to:

asktony@skatefaq.com

I can't guarantee that I will answer every question. For one thing, I don't know all the answers. Secondly, I tend to get a lot of vague "I don't know what skates to get. What should I get?" emails. The more detailed the question, the more likely I can answer it intelligently 8-)

I'll start posting the questions and replies as they come up.

Some minor guidelines:

  • I'm not a trick skater. I haven't had time to learn any cool skating moves or tricks. Wish I did, but don't expect me to teach you how to do a topside soul or a truespin alley-oop fishbrain.
  • I don't know everything about every skate, as they're are too many on the market nowadays. However, there is a lot of overlap between brands and models. So while I can't recommend a specific skate, I can at least help with some guidelines on your choices. So feel free to ask me stuff like "is Skate X better than Skate Y", but I may not have anything useful to tell you.
Okay, let the fun begin...

(NOTE: I'm way behind on my Skate FAQ email backlog, but I'll try and whip out a batch of replies shortly. Thanks for your patience!)
